No end near in FortisBC lockout
What is becoming a fixture on Kelowna sidewalks of striking FortisBC employees on the picket line isn't likely to change anytime soon.
Last Sunday, representatives with FortisBC and the IBEW Local 213 were presented with recommendations to end the contract stalemate by mediator based on two mediation sessions held Sept. 25 and 26.
The union had agreed to take any recommendations to the membership for vote and the locked-out employees overwhelmingly rejected Ready's proposals to reach a settlement.
The addition of numerous contentious concessions during mediation which were included in the recommendations made it unpalatable to the membership in spite of being locked out for more than three months, according to the union.
A union news release said their members "want to go back to work and provide the service they specialize in to the ratepayers but are not willing to be starved into submission when the proposal is not unreasonable."
