Heritage society pays tribute to local historical preservation
The Central Okanagan Heritage Society handed out its annual heritage awards, one of the events held to recognize Heritage Week.
The Distinguished Community Service was presented to Lorainne McLarty.
She and her husband Hugh have had a direct involvement with the Central Okanagan Heritage Society for the past 23 years.
McLarty is now serving her 13th year on the society board, and has held all of the executive positions at various times over those years.
In addition to her involvement with COHS, McLarty has been an active member of First United Church, a heritage designated building.
She has volunteered with the Orchard Museum and been an active member with the Kelowna and District Genealogy Society.
She played a key role in getting Brent’s Grist Mill saved and was part of the city committee that worked on the first feasibility study for that project in 2001.
