Enjoy a free bus ride for Clean Air Day on June 8

The Central Okanagan celebrates Clean Air Day on Wednesday June 8 with free transit all day.

“Vehicles are responsible for the majority of air pollutants in the Central Okanagan,” said Kate Bergen, regional air quality coordinator.

“We hope that residents will take advantage of free transit on Clean Air Day and give it a try as an alternative to single occupancy vehicles.”

To enjoy free transit rides this Clean Air Day, simply tell the bus driver “It’s Clean Air Day.”

Free continental breakfast will be offered to commuters who choose to take the bus, walk, bike, rollerblade, skateboard or carpool for Clean Air Day.

Baked goods, provided by Bliss Bakery, coffee from Bean Scene, Percs and Starbucks, will be available between 7 and 9 a.m. at the Queensway, Westbank and Orchard Park transit exchanges. Kelowna Cycle will also be at the Queensway station offering information and tune ups.

“Taking transit, riding your bike and carpooling are all great ways to help improve air quality, while also reducing stress, getting exercise and getting out of your car to experience your community,” said Bergen.

Clean Air Day is a celebration of environmentally friendly activities that promote clean air  across Canada. It promotes environmentally friendly lifestyle choices, for individuals, families and the community. Clean Air Day takes place during Canadian Environment Week (June 5 to 11).
