Kelowna social service project approved for funding
Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq and local MP Ron Cannan today announced funding for nine innovative projects that will help children, youth and their families achieve and maintain healthier weights and healthier lifestyles in their communities.
One of the nine projects announced today is Healthy Weights for Children (www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/media/nr-rp/2013/2013_0625-eng.php), led by The Bridge Youth & Family Services Society.
“Our government is committed to supporting initiatives that help improve the health of Canadian families,” said Aglukkaq, speaking at a press conference held at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.
“By working in partnerships at the local level, these projects are helping to improve the health of our population.”
“Our organization works with children and youth to develop into healthy adults,” said Anima Anand, program coordinator for the The Bridge Youth & Family Services Society.
"Partnerships like this make it possible to develop culturally relevant and innovative family education programs that promote healthier weights in Canadian children.”
"We all have a role to play in helping more Canadians lead healthier lifestyles,” added Cannan, the Conservative MP for Kelowna-Lake Country. “Our government is doing its part by investing in projects that build supportive physical and social environments that make the healthier choice, the easier choice."
