Kids get to take to the skies with COPA aviation program

The Kelowna Flying Club and its members of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) will host once again the COPA for Kids Aviation Program. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7,at the Kelowna Flying Club, 6135 Airport Way, Apron 3, at the Kelowna International Airport where Okanagan youth from the ages of eight to 17 will have the opportunity to take to the skies.

There is no cost to participate with pilots generously providing their expertise, time and planes and volunteers from the Kelowna Flying Club organizing the event.

Children will get the chance for a close-up look at aircraft on the ground and attend a short ground school where they will learn about the airplanes, what they do and ask questions about aviation and flying.

Pilots will demonstrate how to prepare for each flight with a pre-flight walk around and brief the flight enthusiasts on the safety aspects of their flight before take-off. Then, they take to the skies where they will cruise over the valley before experiencing landing and shut down.

It’s a fun-filled event for the entire family with food and refreshments available for purchase from the Kelowna Lions Club who are kindly hosting the pancake breakfast and barbeque lunch.

Even if you are not taking a flight, there is plenty for the entire family to enjoy with aviation-related exhibits, displays and activities.

Kelowna Flying Club members will be on hand to answer questions and share how you can be more active and involved with your local airport.

Parents can register their children at c4k.kelownaflyingclub.com and are encouraged to do so soon as there are a limited number of flights available.
