Kelowna Art Gallery offers option for parents
In response to next week’s teachers’ strike, the Kelowna Art Gallery will be holding art camps for children ages 5 to 12 from Monday, March 5, through Wednesday, March 7. Instructed by local artists Jim Elwood and Marion Krahn, these camps will feature art activities in painting, drawing, mixed media, and printmaking.
“The Kelowna Art Gallery recognizes some of the challenges local parents may be facing around how to occupy their children next week,” says Nataley Nagy, executive director at the Kelowna Art Gallery.
“We are pleased to offer a solution by adding these art camps to our programming schedule. Our art camps provide a safe, nurturing environment in which children can learn new skills, and positively channel their creative energies.”
Full-day and half-day camps are available. Full-day camps cost $55 per child for members, and $70 per child for non-members, while the price of half-day camps is $30 per child for members, $40 for non-members. Parents are advised to pack lunches for their children enrolled in full day camps, as no meals can be provided. Space for these art camps is limited, so those interested are encouraged to call the Kelowna Art Gallery to register at 250-762-2226. Drop-in participants will be welcome, provided there is still room available.
The Kelowna Art Gallery will also be holding camps during Spring Break. These Art Break camps will run Monday to Friday, for the weeks of March 12 to 16 and March 19 to 23. A full schedule of available art camps and workshops is available on the Gallery’s website at www.kelownaartgallery.com.
The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water St. in the heart of the city's cultural district.
