OSO presents a preview of this season's offerings
The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra is pleased to be part of this weekend’s Taste of the Season taking place at the Kelowna Community Theatre Sept. 29 as part of the City of Kelowna’s Culture Days celebrations.
“This evening showcase allows us a great opportunity to work together with the Kelowna City Band, Ballet Kelowna, Anna Jacyszyn and Theatre Kelowna to give all guests in attendance the opportunity to sample what each of our arts organizations is offering this season,” said Scott Wilson, general manager of the orchestra. "The OSO will be performing a sample of six pieces from concerts from this upcoming season, which opens Oct. 18 in Kelowna.”
The evening will start at 6:15 p.m. at the Kelowna Community Theatre and will feature a “petting zoo” of instruments on display from musicians of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. Guests will also have the opportunity to win a chance to join the orchestra musicians on stage during the evening showcase; at the end of evening the lucky winner will have the opportunity to play the chimes during Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Performances in the theatre will begin at 7 p.m. with a sample showcase by each arts organization.
“From Baroque to Beat Box, Heigh Ho Silver to Silver Anniversary, trumpets to taiko drums, this is a season packed with wonderful music guaranteed to bring us all closer to our own humanity,” confirmed Rosemary Thomson, music director of the OSO. “I welcome you to our new season and invite you all to see it…hear it….love it.”
