École Dr Knox Middle School has taken flight with its annual “Bald Falcon Day” fundraiser in support of the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF).
It was established 17 years ago by former teacher Dave Lafontaine, whose son benefited from life-saving treatment at BC Children’s.
The fundraiser runs from May 1 to May 31, and aims to raise funds for the foundation, supporting the hospital’s priority needs and ensuring young patients receive the care they require while surrounded by their families.
Bald Falcon Day takes place on May 31 when the school gathers for a special assembly to celebrate the cause and students’ efforts.
Some students will fundraise locally, others will “go bald” in to raise awareness, and others will donate 10+ inches of hair for wigs for cancer patients.
Over the past 16 years, the school has raised over $500,000 through the Bald Falcon Day fundraiser. The goal this year is $14,000.
