Kelowna man picked up as alleged drug dealer

A man police describe as a local drug dealer is behind bars this weekend on a drug charge.

On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Kelowna RCMP’s drug unit stopped a black Pontiac coupe in the parking lot in the 3300-block of Lakeshore Drive and arrested a 38-year-old Kelowna man for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police claim a search of the man resulted in the discovery of three ounces of cocaine in his pocket and say $7,000 was found on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

After the arrest, police obtained a search warrant for the hotel room where the man was allegedly staying and say they found eight ounces of heroin and drug paraphernalia in the room.

Charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking in the case is Terry Kenneth Weninger.

His case was scheduled to be in court on Friday and was put over to Monday morning.

Weninger remains in custody pending the next court date.
