Police looking for information about missing West Kelowna woman

A West Kelowna woman who was expected to return from a scheduled mini-break Monday is missing, causing concern among family members.

Rita Thompson was seen leaving her house on the 3100 block of Shannon Court, Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m., in her white 1998 Mitsubishi Spyder.

"Thompson text-messaged her sister later that night at about 10 p.m., saying that she would be back on Monday,"  said Const. Kris Clark,.

"It is unknown where Thompson went and she has yet to return. Attempts by her family to contact her by phone and email have been negative. It is completely out of character for Thompson to leave for more than a day, or for her messages to go unanswered."

Thompson has ties to both Cranbrook and Calgary but checks with her family there have also been negative. Apparently, she has recently been going by her maiden name, Trott.

Thompson is described as Caucasian, 5'3" and 140lbs with shoulder length straight brown hair. She was last seen wearing a plaid jacket with hood, jeans and a blue scarf. Thompson wears glasses occasionally but usually wears contact lenses.

The vehicle is described as a white 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, BC plate 942BFV. It is a two-door convertible with a brown soft-top. There is a hole in the top on the passenger side.

If you have any information, please call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.net to report.
