Climate action topic of UBCO workshop

The third annual Thompson-Okanagan Climate Action Exchange, put on by the Fresh Outlook Foundation, B.C.’s Climate Action Secretariat, UBCO’s Sustainability Office and Fortis B.C., is being held Thurs., Mar. 29 on the Kelowna campus.
It’s a free day-long collection of discussions, speakers, and slide shows that includes lunch and tours of the UBCO facilities.
The keynote address by the province’s environment minister, Terry Lake, will be at 8:40 a.m. by webcast, followed by a session on the business case for sustainability and climate action, with Randy Cleveland of the City of Kelowna and Martin Bell of Urban Systems Ltd.
Speed networking is suggested for the refreshment break, following which there will be a dialogue on key regional climate actions, including transportation, buildings, water and wastewater, agriculture and energy programs.
The morning will conclude with a report on key regional climate actions and next steps.
After lunch, the day continues with a tool kit of online multi-media resources with Heather Bauer from the secretariat; then models of climate action success with Trevor Murdock, Pacific Climate Impact Consortium; Ellen Pond, collaborative for advanced landscape planning and Anna Warwick Sears from the Okanagan Basin Water Board.
The day will wrap up with a showcase of climate action successes, with presenters using a Pecha Kucha format of quick slides.
Next steps and commitments will conclude the day.
It will be held in the UNC Ballroom at UBCO.
