West Kelowna second in Kraft Hockeyville competition
West Kelowna made it to the final 2, but came up short in the Kraft Hockeyville competition, losing out to Stirling-Rawdon of Ontario.
In a competition that started with 700 communities, West Kelowna took it down to the wire, with the winner announced during the first period intermission of the Vancouver-Calgary NHL game tonght.
Rounding out the top five were Amos, Quebec, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Duck Lake, Saskatchewan.
Reports had surfaced earlier today ahead of the nation-wide announcement planned for tonight that the Ontario community of Stirling-Rawdon has won the national Kraft Hockeyville competition.
According to a new release issued by PR Newswire, the Ontario town beat out West Kelowna and three other challengers for the Hockeyville title, which included a $100,000 in arena upgrades and to host an NHL exhibition game next fall.
The winner was scheduled to be announced during the first period intermission of the NHL Hockey Night in Canada game between Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks tonight at about 7:45 p.m.
According to Internet reports, the official press release announcing the Hockeyville winner was to be released at 10:45 p.m. Eastern time, and that was mistaken for 10:45 a.m. by the newswire service.
The release indicated that Stirling-Rawdon beat out second place West Kelowna by more than 1 million votes.
