Local authors do mass book signing
Capital News writer Judie Steeves and 11 other local authors will descend en masse on Mosaic Books Sat., Sept. 8 to bring awareness to International Literacy Day and Project Literacy in Kelowna.
“This is a reminder to the Okanagan public of the wealth of talent we have right here in our valley,” explains organizer Marilyn Strong, author of Getting Paid to Pay Attention.
She is another of the authors attending the mass book signing event from 1 to 4 p.m. at the downtown Kelowna bookstore, where each author will also donate a copy of their book to Project Literacy.
Steeves is the author of Jude’s Kitchen, based on her weekly food column in the Capital News, and co-author of Okanagan Trips and Trails, which she co-wrote with Murphy Shewchuk. Both books are available at local bookstores.
Trevor Neill, general manager of Mosaic Books, says although it will be hectic, he is excited to host the event. “It’s going to be a busy weekend as we are having our grand opening for our Rutland location the same day as the book signing at the Kelowna store. These authors are a great representation of all the different genres and talent we have in the Okanagan.”
The books range from fiction to non-fiction, poetry to business, spirituality to hiking.
Other authors who will be on hand include Judy Berg, a personal development coach who wrote Imagine Your Soul Abundant; Laurie Carter, who wrote Grandma Wears Hiking Boots: a personal buide to the Okanagan Valley and Gifts of the Okanagan, produced with her husband, Bruce Kemp.
As well Jane Eamon, who in addition to 25 years and six CDs has written a book of peotry called Caught in Time; and Leo Louis Jacques, who has written 16 books, including Joey; and Teresa May, who wrote Seeds in the Wind.
Ralph Milton, co-founder of Wood Lake Publishing, is the author of 18 books, including the Family Story Bible and Angels in Red Suspenders; and Stan Sauerwein, author of 12 non-fiction books; and Shawnah Sky, who wrote Out of Darkness is Born Light.
R.K. Takeda is a musician, singer, songwriter and author, who wrote a series for young people called Angel and the Samurai; while Leonne Wilson Jones is a foodie who wrote Define Your Own Simple Luxuries.
