Grant pays for new panel on Military Museum commemorative mural
The federal government has provided a $2,300 grant for the addition of a new panel to the Commemorative Mural on the wall of Memorial Arena.
The mural recognizes those who served in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force.
“I commend members of the Okanagan Military Museum Society for their dedication in adding a new panel to this local commemorative mural honouring veterans,” said Kelowna-Lake Country MP Ron Cannan.
“Our government is very pleased to support communities in creating places of remembrance to ensure Canadians of all ages learn about and remember those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.”
The Okanagan Military Museum Society, with the approval of the City of Kelowna, is coordinating the creation and installation of an additional panel to an existing mural on the outside wall of the arena, which is also the location of the military museum.
The new panel will complement the existing panel that commemorates the service of the British Columbia Dragoons.
With the new addition, all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces will be represented.
Funding for this initiative is provided through the Cenotaph/Monument Restoration Program.
The federal government uses this program to work in partnership with community groups and local organizations to ensure that cenotaphs and monuments honouring our nation’s heroes are conserved to the highest standard of care and dignity. Applications to this program can be submitted at any time during the year and are reviewed on a quarterly basis.
Interested non-profit groups and other organizations may be eligible for funding. See www.veterans.gc.ca to learn more.
