Kelowna Mountie injured pursuing suspected robber
A local Mountie was injured Tuesday night in the process of arresting a man believed to have committed a number of robberies throughout the Central Okanagan.
"(The office) was injured as part of the foot pursuit," said Const. Kris Clark, emphasizing that the officer was not assaulted, and the injuries were not life threatening.
The arrest happened at 4:20 p.m., Tuesday when the West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a robbery that had just occurred at The Wine Store, located at 2130 Louie Drive.
"There had been a series of robberies in Kelowna and West Kelowna over the last week and a half, prompting a detailed police investigation," he said.
"Through the course of their investigation, police were able to identify a suspect earlier this week and began tracking him. As a result of surveillance on the suspect, RCMP members were already on scene when this last robbery took place and the suspect was quickly arrested after a short foot pursuit."
The 37 year old West Kelowna man remains in police custody at this time and is expected to appear in Court later today. He currently faces potential charges of Robbery with Offensive Weapon and Disguising Face with Intent to Commit Offence. More charges may be recommended pending further investigation.
