Updated: Bomb dog sent in to sniff out Kelowna ministry office
Update: Kelowna RCMP say a 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly uttering threats in connection with a bomb threat called into the local office of the Ministry of Employment Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the Kelowna man was released and will appear in court in February to face charges.
On Wednesday, police responded to the bomb threat by evacuating the building the ministry office is located in on Dilworth Drive, as well as several buildings around it and closed a portion of the road while an investigation took place.
No explosive device was found and the buildings and road were re-opened a short time later.
On Thursday, police said they take bomb complaints very seriously and will conduct a risk assessment based on the information they received as a result of the bomb threat investigation at the ministry office.
During the search for an explosive device, police used a bomb-sniffing dog.
Earlier story: Kelowna Mounties are on scene, responding to a bomb threat at the Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance office on Dilworth Drive.
Dilworth Drive, between Leckie Road and Enterprise Way was shut down for about half an hour but has since re-opened, while the ministry office, XS Cargo and and Lordco Parts Ltd. have been evacuated.
After the road was re-opened, RCMP officers continued to close off the parking lot while a bomb dog searched the building.
According to Const. Kris Clark, the suspect was contacted but police have yet to lay any charges.
