Driver in Kelowna crash under investigation
The driver who ran from police after rolling his pickup truck is being investigated for refusing to take a breathalyzer test, RCMP say.
During the regular Monday morning press debriefing, Const. Kris Clark confirmed the 36-year-old male driver ran from the scene and is being investigated for impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
"He's (also) under investigation for impaired refusal, so he refused to provide breath samples," said Clark.
The accident occurred mid-afternoon on Dec. 2 in West Kelowna. An early 1990's Toyota pickup truck was reported to have been proceeding north along Byland Road near Home Hardware when it went off the left side of the road, flipped onto its roof and then slid along the paved driveway into fencing.
Witnesses to the crash followed the driver when he fled the scene and ran into a wooded area and creek behind businesses on Compass Court. He was arrested upon emerging.
