New road maintenance contractor to begin servicing West Kelowna Friday
A new contractor will be responsible for maintaining West Kelowna roads starting Friday.
AEL—a division of HMC Services Inc., the road maintenance provider for Lake Country—begins its five-year contract with the Westside this weekend.
The contractor will be responsible for providing winter maintenance, summer maintenance, drainage maintenance, debris removal and a call centre to respond to concerns or inquiries.
During the winter, AEL will focus on snow clearing, sanding and salting; in the summer it will work on asphalt and gravel surfaces, road shoulders, guardrails and barriers.
Road maintenance was the top concern in the West Kelowna citizens' survey this year. Road issues have topped the list for the past five years.
Residents who have concerns about road maintenance can direct their calls to the District of West Kelowna at 778-797-2225 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, or e-mail roads@districtofwestkelowna.ca.
After hours, residents can contact AEL's call centre, toll free, at 1-866-353-3136.
The district notes the maintenance of Highway 97, Highway 97C and Westside Road is the responsibility of the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
