Snowboarder who died Tuesday on Big White identified

Big White- A 22-year-old Winnipeg snowboarder,identified as Nickolas Voyer-Taylor has died after he was found suffering from severe hypothermia in a creek bed yesterday afternoon at Big White.

He was a seasonal employee and resident at the resort who was snowboarding when he was found by other skiers partially submerged in water in a snow well.

It was on Tuesday, at 3:30 pm that Kelowna RCMP received a request for assistance for an unconscious man being retrieved from a creek bed near Sapphire Glades at the Big White Ski Resort. The man was found partially submerged in water, buried in snow, seriously injured and apparently suffering from severe hypothermia.

The coroner's service reported that he was recovered by members of the ski patrol and transported to Kelowna General Hospital where he died after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

His family has been notified.

The Kelowna RCMP continue to assist the the BC Coroner's Service with the investigation.
