Kelowna man charged after uttering threats and pointing realistic-looking firearm
Jordan Jones, 21, has been charged with Uttering Threats and Assault with a Weapon after pointing a replica handgun at two individuals in an alley near the intersection of Richter Street and Wardlaw Avenue.
Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark said police were shocked by how realistic the fake gun looked.
"Police officers were immediately struck by how realistic the firearm appeared, even up close," said Clark.
One of the officers happened to own the real version of the exact model seized—the comparison between the two illustrates how easily one could be mistaken for the other.
Clark said police don't have the luxury of examining a suspect's weapon before engaging them; therefore, they have to rely on their knowledge, experience and perceptions in order to respond.
"When faced with the apparent threat of a firearm, the results could be disastrous."
Dean Schaffler was one of the individuals who had the fake gun pointed at him Jan. 19.
"I was scared for my life," Schaffler said at the time.
Jones has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 18.
