Impact on hospital access
The westbound lane of Rose Avenue adjacent to Kelowna General Hospital from the east parkade to Pandosy Street will be closed for three days this week, Wednesday to Friday.
Vehicle traffic on this section of Rose will be one way eastbound only on these days.
In order to access the KGH parkades from Pandosy, hospital visitors are asked to detour down Royal or Christleton avenues onto Abbott Strett and enter the KGH site from the west end of Rose. Traffic leaving the site will still be able to exit eastbound from Rose onto Pandosy.
This closure is necessary so that FortisBC can install new gas lines to service the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre, currently under construction at the corner of Pandosy and Rose.
The construction company, PCL Constructors, will have flag people on hand for the duration of the work, and detour signs will clearly indicate the new traffic patterns.
There will be no change to the Emergency patient drop-off. Patients requiring emergency treatment can be dropped off at the emergency department entrance on Royal Avenue. Other patients may be dropped off at one of three entrances:
• Lab building (Dr. Walter Anderson Building). Take the elevator to the third floor and walk across Pandosy Skywalk to access the Centennial Building and the rest of KGH
• Main hospital entrance (Centennial Building). Drop patients off at the main entrance off Pandosy
• West side of KGH (Royal Building). Drop patients off at the Strathcona Ave. west entrance.
