Central Okanagan Regional District names new chief administrative officer
The Regional District of Central Okanagan has found their man on Vancouver Island.
The RDCO has hired a top regional government bureaucrat from the Comox Valley to lead its operations here in the Central Okanagan.
The RDCO board has appointment Brian Reardon as its new chief administrative officer.
Reardon will join the regional district April 15. He has spent the past five years as administrative leader of the Strathcona Regional District.
"Mr. Reardon is very familiar with the Okanagan and has excellent leadership credentials," said RDCO board chairman Robert Hobson. "He served as chief administrative officer for the North Okanagan Regional District (in the past)."
The decision comes in advance of the end of the one-year interim appointment of Paul Macklem as CAO. Macklem will return to his job as general manager of corporate sustainability for the City of Kelowna in April.
Hobson said Reardon's combination of experience in the regional district form of government, along with his leadership talent, made him the perfect fit to head the regional district here "for years ahead.”
“I am thrilled to be given this incredible opportunity to work with the Central Okanagan Regional Board, its staff and its regional partners in building upon its success as a recognized leader in regional governance and in creating a healthy, sustainable region," said Reardon.
“I look forward to working with the board, and with staff to ensure the boards strategic objectives are achieved and find new ways to strengthen the regional federation.”
The Regional District of Central Okanagan was created in 1967 by the provincial government and is one of 27 regional districts in the province. It provides region-wide services such as 9-1-1, Dog Control and Regional Parks in the electoral areas and member municipalities of Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland and West Kelowna. It also provides local government services to the residents of the unincorporated Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral Areas.
