West Kelowna Jim Lind Arena to close for renovations
The Jim Lind Arena will be closed for renovations April 1 to Aug. 1 as the District of West Kelowna upgrades the facility.
Renovations will include the installation of: A new concrete ice floor, new rink boards, new rink glass and new lighting for the arena.
The original ice floor was built in 1974 and was expected to last up to 40 years. The floor has had two major leaks in the past seven years, causing service disruptions.
The new seamless glass will meet industry-recommended height standards—the old glass did not. The new lights will reduce energy consumption by 38 per cent.
The $1.1 million upgrade to the facility received $250,126 from the federal government under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
The last public skate before the renovations will take place is Tuesday, March 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. DJ Krucial K “The Flyin' Hawaiian” will provide music at the event.
