Central Okanagan Liberal incumbents re-elected
Central Okanagan Liberal incumbent MLAs Norm Letnick, Ben Stewart and Steve Thomson will give to keep their jobs for another four years.
The Liberals have scored another election victory against what seemed like insurmountable odds according to polls heavily favouring the NDP just two months ago, but party leader Christy Clark is still in a dogfight to retain her own MLA riding in Vancouver-Point Grey against NDP challenger David Eby.
Currently, the Liberals are leading or elected in 5o ridings, the NDP are at 33, the Greens at one and one independent leading. The Conservatives were shut out with leader John Cummins unable to unseat Liberal incumbent opponent Mary Polak in the Langley riding.
Green candidate Andrew Weaver made history in B.C. politics as the party's first candidate to be elected to the legislature in the Victoria-Oak Bay riding.
In other ridings, traditional bellwether riding of Kamloops – South Thompson goes to the BC Liberals’ Todd Stone, and Surrey-Green Timbers re-elects NDP with Sue Hammell.
DP MLA Spencer Chandra-Herbert easily re-elected in Vancouver-West End and Liberal Eric Foster re-elected in Vernon-Monashee.
NDP re-elected in Surrey-Newton with Harry Bains.
Liberal Moira Stilwell re-elected in Vancouver-Langara.
Liberal, and former Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan elected in Vancouver-False Creek.
Surrey-Panorama stays Liberal with election of Marvin Hunt and Liberal Shirley Bond keeps seat in Prince George-Valemont.
Liberal candidate Greg Kyllo elected in Shuswap, NDP’s Mike Farnworth re-elected in Port Coquitlam, and NDP’s Michelle Mungall elected in Nelson-Creston.
NDP MLA Maurine Karagianis re-elected in Esquimalt-Royal Roads.
Liberal incumbents John Yap and Linda Reid have win the two Richmond ridings, however, and Liberal Rich Coleman was re-elected in Fort Langley-Aldergrove.
NDP leader Adrian Dix easily won his Vancouver-Kingsway riding, while Liberal Gordon Hogg retained his seat in Surrey-White Rock and Liberal Stephanie Cadieux won the Surrey-Cloverdale riding.
The NDP have also recorded victories in the Alberni-Pacific Rim (Scott Fraser), Victoria-Swan Lake (Rob Fleming) and Kootenay West (Katrine Conroy) ridings.
NDP incumbents John Horgan (Juan de Fuca), Bruce Ralston (Surrey-Whalley) and Shane Simpson (Vancouver-Hastings) have been re-elected.
Liberal incumbent Bill Bennett is re-elected in Kootenay-East and John Martin in Chilliwack.
