Van stolen from Verve condos in Kelowna leads to arrest of allegedly prolific thief
A 33-year-old Kelowna man is facing a number of new charges after he was arrested in an allegedly stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning.
The Kelowna RCMP received a report someone had broken into a vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday at 555 Yates Road, the Verve condominium development.
"Police attended and could hear banging coming from the 'secured' parking indicating that the offence was still in progress," said a media release issued by Const. Kris Clark, Kelowna RCMP.
Unable to gain entry into the parking garage, the officer called for backup to help capture the suspect and as the van left the scene, RCMP closed in and made the arrest.
In addition to the van, the suspect was found with a number of other items—tools, cellular phones, wallets, electronics, clothing and cash—all allegedly stolen.
After the arrest, the officers discovered the suspect was wanted on an outstanding Canada-wide warrant for parole violations. He was well known to police and has been deemed to be a prolific offender.
"Underground parking offers a false sense of security and residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables," said Clark.
He faces a multitude of potential charges including break and enter, commit, possession of break-in instruments, possession of stolen property and a dozen counts of theft. He is in court today.
