Kelowna RCMP are investigating an apparent drowning in Okanagan Lake at the end of Watt Road near Gyro Beach.

Police say the received a call about an missing male swimmer in the off-shore near Gyro Beach  in the Mission at 7 p.m. this evening.

Corp. Bill Parmar said a couple dived off their boat, about a 20-foot Bayliner, to go swimming when the woman got into distress.

She waved her arm for help and a passing jet skier stopped to help her out of the water. But when she looked for her male partner,he couldn't be found.

"It's another unfortunate situation where we are reminded of the importance of taking safety precautions when in the water during the summer," Parmar said at the scene.

The couple were apparently swimming about 100 to 150 yards off-shore when they go into trouble.

Police were comforting the woman at the scene and the boat has been recovered, while the search for the male swimmer continues.

Police have not released the identifies of the couple at this time. Watch for updates at www.kelowncapnew.com as more information becomes available.
