Man in custody after robbing pharmacy and stealing vehicle
A 38-year-old man is in custody, facing numerous potential charges, after he allegedly robbed a pharmacy and stole a vehicle Wednesday morning.
On Oct. 16, shortly after 8 a.m., Kelowna RMCP responded to a report of a robbery at the Shopper's Drug Mart in Orchard Park Mall.
An unknown man, apparently brandishing a weapon, demanded narcotics from the pharmacy and keys to a vehicle.
The man then fled in a stolen car with an undisclosed amount of drugs.
The vehicle was spotted driving at a high rate of speed in an extremely dangerous manner before police were forced to abandon the pursuit due to the increasing risk of public safety.
The vehicle was located damaged and abandoned on Fir Court.
Plainclothes and uniformed police flooded the area while a police service dog tracked the suspect.
The man was apprehended a short time later at an unrelated residence on Woods Road.
Several bottles of drugs were recovered during the man's arrest as wells the search of the vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
The 38-year-old man of no fixed address face a number of potential charges in relation to Robbery with Violence, Theft of a Vehicle and Flight from Police.
According to Const. Kris Clark, the man is not from the area and Kelowna RCMP have not dealt with him in the past.
He is expected to appear in court Thursday.
