Help from on high for Kelowna mall cop case

Police got a little help from above when the RCMP helicopter, Air 3, assisted in tracking some shoplifting suspects yesterday afternoon.

Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of shoplifting at the Orchard Park Mall located at 2271 Harvey Avenue, Dec. 1 2013 at 2:53 p.m.

"A man and a woman were identified as working together to shoplift throughout the mall and appeared to be carrying a backpack full of stolen items," said Const. Kris Clark.

"The couple were seen fleeing the mall on bicycles and police requested the assistance of the RCMP Helicopter, Air 3, which was already in the area. The woman was tracked to Dilworth Drive and Enterprise Way where she was taken into custody. The man was then tracked to the McDonald's restaurant on Harvey Avenue where he left the bike and jumped into a taxi. Police stopped the cab on Cooper Street and arrested the man for shoplifting."

The man was held in custody on the strength of an outstanding Warrant for Breach of Probation out of Cranbrook. The woman faces a potential charges of possession of stolen property and was released on a Promise to Appear for Court in February.

The investigation is ongoing.
