West Kelowna: Chamber of commerce becomes board of trade
The Westbank and District Chamber of Commerce will now be known as: Greater Westside Board of Trade.
Board of directors received final approval of the organization's name change Thursday, Nov. 29.
According to Norm LeCavalier, Greater Westside Board of Trade co-chair, the decision was made to give the former chamber "a lift."
"This process has taken almost a year to complete and we are very excited about launching our rebranding efforts as soon as possible," said LeCavalier.
"Since our AGM in January 2013, we have been moving in a positive direction and have received lots of support from the Greater Westside business community. Our goal is to develop an image that will create a higher profile throughout the Greater Westside."
LeCavalier said the re-branding will include a new logo and mission statement, which will be unveiled at the January 2014 annual general meeting. He added the move will allow the board of trade to broaden its scope and reach out to other chambers up the valley.
Membership has increased from 250 to 340 since the chamber's AGM last January.
Co-chair Marek Buryska said the name change is about inclusivity.
"This is an opportunity to represent all local businesses on the Westside, encompassing all of the local neighbourhoods like Lakeview Heights, Shannon Lake, downtown Westbank and businesses on Westbank First Nation lands," said Buryska.
