Musicians from Lake Country and around the Okanagan can showcase their talents once again this year with the announcement of a third annual Lake Country Open Mic Has Talent contest this spring.

The event spotlights original singers and songwriters from the Okanagan and the 2014 contest will take place Feb. 5, March 5 and April 19 at the Lake Country Coffee House.

“Have you ever wanted to showcase your singing and songwriting talents?” asked Jennifer Boal, founder of Lake Country Open Mic Has Talent. “The annual contest was designed to spotlight original singers/songwriters and give them the opportunity to win some studio recording time and performance opportunities. The multi-evening contest allows performers, over the age of 12, to showcase their music for a panel of judges, and experience the positive feedback from a small live audience. I’ve been amazed by some of the talented young people from Lake Country that have participated in the annual contest! Brief video clips of 2012 and 2013 performers are available at www.lakecountryopenmic.ca to give you a flavor of the talent we have locally.”

The Lake Country Coffee House is a cozy venue where local entertainment is really celebrated and supported by residents and visitors alike.

The top five performers in 2013 included Justin Dueck, Luke Atherton, Rigel Seedhouse, Timely Wonders and Jeff Kouwenhoven.

The judges had a tough time choosing the prize winners. Performer prizes include professional audio recording/production time with Dan Marcelino of DMA Studios as well as opportunities to perform through the Lake Country Open Air Performance Society, Parks Alive, ArtWalk, and the IPE. The 2013 Talent co-winners went on to perform at the 2013 Canada Day evening event hosted by Lake Country Open Air Performances at Beasley Park.

Registration forms for the 2014 contest are available at the Lake Country Coffee House at 10345 Bottom Wood Lake Road in Lake Country, or can be downloaded from the website at www.lakecountryopenmic.ca
