Updated: Huge power outage hits Okanagan

UPDATE: While there is still no word on what caused the outages, Fortis BC says it has restored power to most parts of the Okanagan affected by a large power disruption that spread across the Okanagan Thursday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m., Fortis Tweeted that it had restored power to the majority of the affected areas, including Kelowna, and was working on restoring power in Keremeos.

ORIGINAL STORY: Fortis B.C. is reporting power outages across the Okanagan Thursday morning, including in parts of Kelowna.

In some areas of the city, power was not affected, while in others it went off and came on again after about 30 minutes. Currently power is reportedly out out in parts of the city as well as other Okanagan centres such as Penticton and Osoyoos.

Fortis says it has crews assessing the situation and is asking the public for patience.

No cause for the power disruption has yet been identified.
