Robbery suspect taken into custody
The suspect police believe to be responsible for a series of armed robberies over the past few weeks was arrested after a pharmacy robbery Tuesday night.
Brandon Oswald, 22, of West Kelowna has been charged with a number of offences in relation to an armed robbery Tuesday night, but police believe him to be responsible for several more in the Central Okanagan.
On March 11, just before 10 p.m., plainclothes and uniformed officers from both Kelowna and West Kelowna were conducting surveillance on Oswald, who was suspected of several armed robberies beginning in February.
Police followed the suspect to the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 2475 Dobbin Rd., but were not in a position to intervene prior to him entering the store. At the time the suspect had a mask on and a gun in hand.
The man reportedly demanded cash and drugs from the staff before calmly leaving the store on foot. He had his vehicle strategically parked a short distance away but police took him into custody in the parking lot, before he could get there.
The gun was a fake, but according to Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark, the replica looked realistic.
Police anticipate additional charges will be laid against Oswald, pending further investigation into the related robbery series.
Although police believe Oswald to be responsible for several robberies in the Central Okanagan, investigators are also aware of a separate, unrelated group actively committing armed robberies in Kelowna. Those investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with any information regarding Oswald, his actions over the past month or any robberies in the Central Okanagan are asked to call the Kelowna RCMP, Const. McBride or Const. Moon at 250-762-3300.
