West Kelowna firefighters have achieved their goal of raising $25,000 toward the construction of the new BC Burn Fund building.

The majority of funds raised by the West Kelowna firefighters came from the sale of their first annual calendar.

More than 1,500 copies of the calendar, which was put together last fall and sold throughout the community, were sold at $10 each.

"It was a huge undertaking, but this community has always rallied behind us in our fundraising," said firefighter Mike Kay, the local BC Burn Fund representative.

"It is great to see so much support from the local community."

One of the other initiatives was the Fire and Fashion Show, held last May, which raised $9,000.

Plans are underway for this year's event, which will take place May 31. Tickets are available through fire department members or There is limited seating available for the event.

The BC Burn Fund is a registered charity, established in 1978 by the BC Professional Firefighters Association. The burn fund provides lifesaving, life-supporting and life-enriching services to people in B.C.

More than 3,700 professional firefighters from 50 communities throughout B.C. and the Yukon dedicate their time and skills to support burn survivors and increase the public's knowledge about fire and burn safety issues through various BC Burn Fund programs.
