Intersection work will temporarily close entrance to popular Kelowna park

Kelowna city hall says traffic using the intersection of Springfield Road and Durnin Road will be affected for the next three weeks by safety and operational improvements to the roads.

The work, which is currently underway, includes:

• New concrete islands to prohibit unsafe left-turn exit and through movements from the Mission Creek Regional Park access directly opposite Durnin Road

• New sidewalk, curb/gutter and corner ramps on both sides of the park access opposite Durnin Road.

• Median work on Springfield Road near Benvoulin Road to increase the number of vehicles making a westbound left turn.

• Three new catch basins along Springfield Road. This work will be performed at night to minimize traffic impacts

Lane closures will be in effect for eastbound and westbound traffic with pattern changes throughout construction. Detour routes will be posted.

According to the city, motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan their commute through the area accordingly.

Access to the park from the intersection will not be permitted during the work, and park visitors will have to use use the west entrance to the park at Springfield Road and Leckie Road instead.

Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct motorists and pedestrians through the construction site.
