Purloined pet store cat returned safe and sound

The resident cat of Buckerfields store on Springfield Road in Kelowna has been found safe and sound.

Police announced Tuesday that they picked up the cat in Ashcroft earlier that same day.

"Information was received in Kelowna which led Ashcroft RCMP officers to recover the cat without incident at a residence in Ashcroft," said Sgt. Wade Severson.

"The cat has is being returned to the owner at Kamloops Rural Detachment. The cat is reported to be in good health. No charges have been laid. The investigation continues and an update will be available in five days."

The cat was reported missing earlier this week. A man and woman were seen exiting the Springfield Road store during business hours with the cat tucked in their arms. A store employee ran after the couple, unsuccessfully trying to wave down their ca.

The store owner contacted media outlets to ask for information and it worked.
