Glenmore car wash proposal rejected by Kelowna council
Kelowna city council has shot down a controversial plan to build a six-bay car wash in a residential area of Glenmore.
Following a packed public hearing Tuesday night, council voted unanimously to reject the proposal, with council feeling it was the wrong place to locate the business.
Part of that reasoning was because it would have been located directly behind a residential development and close to Brant's Creek Linear Park.
Several residents had expressed concern about noise from both the car wash machinery and the cars and people using it.
In the end, council felt the while the business was likely needed in Glenmore, the vacant lot proposed for the operation was the wrong site.
Heading into the public hearing, several councillors had expressed similar concerns to residents but said they wanted to hear from the applicant and the community and that's why they sent it to the public hearing.
The proposed lot the applicant wanted to use is on Glenmore Road across the street from Watson Road Elementary school.
