Highway 97 lane closures begin Sunday

Highway users are advised to plan extra time on their commute next week while Highway 97 traffic lanes are shifted onto their temporary alignments on bridge hill between Campbell Road and the Westside Road Interchange.

Motorists and cyclists can anticipate daily changes in traffic patterns through the construction zone from Sunday evening through Friday, which may result in slower moving traffic and minor delays.

Lane closures on Highway 97 may be anticipated as follows:

- Southbound lane closures will be in effect beginning Sunday evening through Wednesday. During the day, southbound traffic will be reduced to two lanes between the hours of 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. During the evening, southbound traffic will be reduced to single lane between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

- Northbound lane closures will be in effect Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Cyclist lanes will be affected by the realignment and will be maintained along the shoulders of the highway as the lanes are shifted.

Once the traffic has been shifted onto the temporary alignment, all five lanes of traffic will be maintained for the duration of the construction period.

A 50 km/h speed limit will be in effect through the construction zone during the traffic shift and until completion of the overpass in October.

Drivers are asked to watch for crews and equipment working in the area and obey all traffic signage and flag persons.
