Change of trial venue denied for accused Bacon killers
The men charged with murdering Lower Mainland gangster Jonathan Bacon outside the Delta Grand Hotel in 2011 will be tried in Kelowna.
Lawyers representing Jujhar Khun-Khun, 26, Jason Thomas McBride, 37, and Michael Hunter Jones, 30, applied to have the trial moved out of the Okanagan city, but that was denied Thursday. The details surrounding the application and decision are subject to a publication ban.
Bacon was shot dead in Kelowna Aug. 14, 2011, outside the Delta Grand Hotel.
Hells Angel Larry Amero and Independent Soldier James Riach were also believed to be in the car.
Amero is now in jail in Montreal after being arrested there for trafficking, following a major undercover drug investigation. Riach is in police custody in the Philipines following his arrest for allegedly taking part in a drug trafficking ring.
Another passenger was Leah Hadden-Watts, who had her spinal column severed by a bullet. She now has paralysis in both her legs, most of her upper torso and partial paralysis of both arms and hands. Hadden Watts has now filed a civil suit against the trio facing criminal charges , as well as the companies that operate the Delta Grand hotel and the nearby casino.
