Smith Creek wildfire 100% contained

All Evacuation Alerts and Evacuation Orders resulting from the Smith Creek Fire will be lifted as of 5 p.m. today, July 24, 2014. The Wildfire Management Branch has advised the public that the Smith Creek Fire is now 100 per cent contained.

The Area Restriction Order put in place by Wildfire Management Branch remains in effect. A map of the order area can be found at www.bcwildfire.ca.

Yesterday, a post-wildfire assessment of the Smith Creek Fire was completed by the BC Forest Service and the Emergency Operations Centre with results indicating there is a low risk of erosion or debris flows, which can occur when wildfire activity is followed by periods of heavy rain.

Emergency personnel will continue to monitor the area for fire and drainage activity.

The Emergency Operations Centre for the Smith Creek Fire will stand down as of 5 p.m. today.
