Clifton Road work set to start in Kelowna

Clifton Road in Kelowna will be closed between Clement Avenue and and Lambert Avenue starting at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11 to allow for road work to widen the street,  improve underground utilities and improve safety.

Improvements to Clifton Road will include widening to four lanes, new sidewalks on both sides, street lighting, sanitary sewer, water main and shallow utilities and a new storm main will be constructed from Lambert Avenue to Clement Avenue. New retaining walls will be constructed along both sides where required and a signalized pedestrian crossing installed at Hartwick Avenue.

The project will also include to creation of a separated cycling space or “cycle track,” which is separated from the roadway by a barrier curb and separated from the pedestrian sidewalk by a visual barrier.

Detour routes will be clearly marked via Glenmore Road, Clement Road and High Road. Work is occurring this week at Clement Avenue and Spall Road to extend the left turn bay in preparation for the detour.

Motorists are urged to follow the signs and safety personnel directions.

Construction of the project is scheduled to be complete by Nov. 30.  The capital cost  of the work is $3.6 million.
