Members of the Kelowna Right to Life Society will be displaying graphic images of abortion today on K.L.O. Road in front of Okanagan College from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The protest is in response to Jan. 28 marking the 25th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s “Morgentaler Decision.” In that 1988 decision, the court threw out Canada’s existing laws on abortion and instructed Parliament to enact new ones.
The society says since then, a lack of action from the government has enabled Canada to remain one of only a small handful of countries in the world with no legal restrictions on abortion at any time during pregnancy.
“All we are doing is exposing the truth of what our nation has condoned for decades,” said society spokesman Marlon Bartram. “Abortion is a hidden injustice that must be exposed in order to be cured. Most people don’t realize the truth of the matter, that abortion is an act of violence that kills a baby. The photographic evidence we will publicly display (today) proves that.”
