Update: Body found at Penticton church parking lot

UPDATE-

RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said Thursday the discovery of a body in a vehicle at the Penticton Alliance Church on Wednesday morning is not suspicious and the matter has been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.

Andy Watson, manager of strategic communications for the Coroners Service, said Thursday morning the deceased was a man in his 40’s but could not disclose the classification of death due to privacy legislation.

The matter remains under investigation by the coroners office.

RCMP plainclothes officers are at the scene of the Penticton Alliance Church.

Four unmarked cars surrounded a vehicle Wednesday morning that is in the parking lot of the church located on Brandon Avenue. The vehicle has a tarp over the drivers side and the jaws of life emergency rescue tool are being used to open the vehicle.

The coroners vehicle is also on the scene.
