Bertram Creek Regional Park in Kelownna has been closed due to a reported cougar sighting.

Regional parks staff and the BC Conservation Officer Service advise Central Okanagan residents to stay out of the 18-hectare park located along the south end of Lakeshore Road.

Kelowna RCMP and parks staff helped evacuate the beach area and get people out of the park early this afternoon.

The regional district adds there have not been any reported incidents as a result of the cougar sighting in the park, which will remain closed until deemed safe to return by Conservation Officers at the scene.
