Due to the Royal visit to Kelowna, there will be no public parking and possibly some transit delays at UBC Okanagan on Tuesday Sept. 27. The public should also expect traffic delays along Highway 97.
Anyone heading to the University area or travelling along Highway 97 are advised to allow extra time for travel. The speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/hr between Edwards Road and Airport Way. Regular traffic flow is expected to resume by 3 p.m.
The Highway 97 access ramp to John Hindle Drive will be closed at 11 a.m. to traffic, except for transit vehicles. After 11 a.m., the only access to the University area will be via Airport Way.
Taking transit or carpooling is recommended. There will be expanded transit service from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the #97 Express at all regular stops, as well as some non-stop service from the Queensway Exchange.
There is no parking at the University, on John Hindle Drive, Hollywood Road North or Innovation Drive. Towed vehicles will be moved to the property just north of Parking Lot H, with access from Innovation Drive.
Several undeveloped properties on Innovation Drive north of the UBC Okanagan campus will be opened to provide a limited amount of pay-parking. Alternatively, some pay parking is available at City Park for people who would like to park and ride transit.
