A Kelowna family is in the care of emergency services, following a fire that charred their deck and a large portion of their home.

Kelowna Fire Department responded to the structure fire at 1360 Kelglen Cres just after midnight, and came upon a house with the side deck of the structure fully involved.

The four residents and cat had managed to escape the blaze without injury, and were on site when the fire department arrived.

“The residents of the house and the pet have been assisted by emergency support services,” said Tim Light, department platoon captain.

Although the blaze is not suspicious in nature, it’s cause is still under investigation.

“The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind all residents to make sure all smoking materials are completely extinguished before discarding them into your household garbage containers,” said Light.
