Firefighters douse Kelowna house fire on Carruthers Street

Fire believed to have started in the attic of bungalow home at the corner of Carruthers and Sutherland at about 4:30 p.m.

The Kelowna Fire Department was able to quickly bring a fire under control that ignited in the attic of a house at 1906 Carruthers Street late this afternoon.

Firefighter crews responded to the fire scene by 4:45 p.m. before the fire got out of control, althought flames were reportedly seen coming from the roof.

The people inside the home were safely evacauted and the damage was limited to the attic and roof area of the house, according to Kelowna Capt. Kelly Stevens.

Stevens said the cause of the fire and the damage were still being assessed as of 5:30 p.m., but nobody was injured.

“The fire was quickly brought under control,” he said.

Traffic is currently blocked off on Sutherland Ave. east of Gordon Drive until the fire department has completed its fire mop -up efforts.
