Kelowna man arrested, drugs and weapons seized

A man wanted on an outstanding warrant was taken into custody and found in possession of drugs and weapons Tuesday.

On  an officer on patrol with the Kelowna RCMP Downtown Enforcement Unit (DEU) spotted a suspect June 14, at 2:20 p.m., wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The officer arrested the man and found he was in possession of various illegal drugs, as well as a concealed butterfly knife and can of bear spray.

In his possession were:

• 1.16 grams of suspected heroin

• two grams of suspected methamphetamine

• 1.37 grams of crack cocaine.

“The DEU is dedicated to Kelowna’s downtown core,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey. “DEU proactively works closely with various partner agencies to reduce street crime and make the downtown a safer place for everyone to enjoy. Officers of the DEU have a relationship with their clients and regularly breach those clients or arrest them on outstanding arrest warrants,” O’Donaghey said in a press release.

The 25-year-old Kelowna man, of no fixed address, was held in police custody to appear in court on today, June 15. He faces potential charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited weapon.
