A man with a string of arrests to his name is facing possession charges after police pulled him over in a stolen truck and found a stash of drugs.

Last Friday, plain clothes RCMP officers from the Prolific Offender Suppression Team and Property Crime Unit noticed a truck, which was believed to be stolen, while working in the downtown core.

They pulled over the driver, Austin William Murray, 33, in the 1600-block of Water Street and discovered the Vehicle Identification Number had, in fact, been removed from the dash, indicating it was almost certainly stolen.

Both driver and occupant were arrested and police discovered a stash of drugs and cash in the truck. In all, 46 grams of methamphetamine, 1.8 ounces of liquid GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate), 0.5 grams of crack cocaine, 0.4 grams of heroin, drug paraphernalia and $3800 cash was seized.

Murray was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. The passenger was also known to police and has high level gang associations, but is not facing charges.

Murray was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
