Enforcement along a stretch of Highway 97 north of Kelowna resulted in dozens of drivers ticketed for speeding, nearly half of those had their vehicles removed from the roadway and impounded for allegedly speeding excessively.
During Monday afternoon, officers with RCMP’s Central Okanagan Traffic Service conducted enforcement on Highway 97 North alongside Ellison Lake.
In a period of approximately two hours, officers issued a total of 25 violation tickets to motorists allegedly travelling above the posted speed limit of 90 kilometres per hour (km/hr).
Of those 25, 10 motorists were issued fines of at least $368 for allegedly speeding excessively over the posted speed limit. The highest speed obtained by enforcement officers was 148 km/hr in the posted 90 km/hr zone.
“The RCMP wish to remind motorists to slow down, drive safely and watch their speeds,” said Kelowna RCMP Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release.
“A driver observed speeding in excess of 41 km/hr over the posted speed limit could be subjected to a minimum fine amount of $368 along with a mandatory seven-day impound of their vehicle.”
