Police responded to a horrific head on collision near Peachland Monday night, that took the life of a 33 year old Sicamous man.

Police responded to a horrific head on collision near Peachland Monday night, that took the life of a 33 year old Sicamous man.

According to witnesses, a white Pontiac SUV was travelling northbound on Hwy 97 South near Brent Rd when it crossed into the path of a southbound Ford cube van, which had almost no time to react.

The driver of the Pontiac was declared deceased at the scene while the female driver of the cube van, from Penticton, was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital with serious injuries where she remains in critical but stable condition.

The collision occurred at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 and it was dark with little illumination.

"It was raining heavily  which also affected visibility" said Const. Steve Holmes of the Kelowna Municipal Traffic Services.

"Though Police are not yet able to confirm exactly what led to this tragic crash, the RCMP's Traffic Analyst conducted a thorough scene investigation which may give us more insights once the analysis is complete."
